Robin Harris - Times Online
When American and British-led forces invaded Iraq in 2003, neither George Bush nor Tony Blair, devout Christians both, can have imagined that one consequence of their action would be the extinction of Christianity in a land where it had survived for nearly 2,000 years.
Since Saddam Hussein's fall, perhaps half of Iraq's 800,000 Christians have fled the country. About half the rest are internally displaced persons. There is no mystery why. Last summer, the traditionally Christian Dora suburb of Baghdad was cleansed of its Christian families by threats, intimidation, looting and abduction for ransom. Even on the plains of Nineveh, where they now congregate, they have no effective protection.

A Call for Participation in a Peaceful Demonstration in front of the White House
“Be not afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent.” Acts 18:9
“Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the afflicted and needy” Proverbs 31: 9
Coptic organizations in the United States invite you to participate in a peaceful demonstration in front of the White House on Wednesday July 16, 2008, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. The purpose of the demonstration is to protest the persecution of the Coptic Christians of Egypt, including attacks against Coptic families, churches, monasteries, homes and stores. During the past few weeks, news agencies worldwide reported attacks against the Copts in towns Zaitoun, Alexandria, Abu Fana, Dafash, and Fayoum. The situation became so bad to the extent that attempts were made to force Coptic monks to denounce their faith.

Thousands of Copts took to the streets of Paris, The Netherlands, and Greece to demonstrate against the ongoing attacks on Copts in Egypt, the most prominent of which attacks at present is the savage attack on the monastery of Abu Fana.
In Amsterdam on Saturday 21/06/08 a number of Copts living in the Netherlands joined by a group of Dutch demonstrators joined by the Christian Union Party Member of Parliament Joel Stephanus Voordewind began their rally.

By Ed Rizkalla
In a recent research, I consulted the analyses and translations of some German scholars who studied the history and writing of medieval age Arabic chroniclers (1). I always had a soft spot in my heart for German scholarship, and to say I was impressed with the high caliber of their scholarly work, meticulous analyses and accurate translation would be an understatement. However I was reminded anew with a classic joke about cultural traits. A question- what is an elephant- was posed to four men, an Englishman, a Frenchman, an Italian, and a German. The Englishman replied succinctly that an elephant was a four legged animal, whose natural habitat is Africa and Asia. The Frenchman painted a picture for an elephant and the Italian composed a song about it. The German however went home, packed his bags, travelled to Africa and Asia, and after two years of research, presented his reply in a thick volume of everything he could find about elephants. Humor aside, German scholarship is in fact among the best in the world.

Washington, D.C. – The Leadership Council for Human Rights strongly supports H. Res. 1303, calling on the Egyptian Government to respect human rights and freedoms of religion and expression in Egypt. LCHR expresses its appreciation to Congressional Human Rights Caucus Co-Chair Frank Wolf for introducing this important resolution, which details Egypt's human rights abuses against religious minorities, journalists and bloggers, democracy proponents, and civil society development organizations. The resolution also urges the President and the Secretary of State to prioritize human rights and religious freedom in meetings with Egyptian officials.

Barely a few weeks after the attacks on the Abu Fana monastery in El-Menya, Coptic homes and businesses in the village of Al Nazla, in the Fayoum province south of Cairo were attacked by their Muslim neighbors. The attackers shouted “Allah Akbar” and “Kill the infidels” as they hurled stones at their Christian neighbors’ homes.
