Just released, "Coffee with the Prophet" by Dr. Mark Gabriel.
Dr. Mark Gabriel was born and raised in Egypt as a Muslim. More than just a practicing Muslim, he was a scholar from his youth. His first milestone was to complete memorization of the Quran at age twelve. He went on to attend Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, the oldest, most prestigious Islamic University in the world, where he earned bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in Islamic History and culture.
In "Coffee with the Prophet," Muhammad visits the twenty-first century and discovers how much Islam and the world have changed in 1,400 years. He is interviewed by a mysterious journalist who speaks Arabic and knows the Quran but doesn’t answer calls to prayer.
The journalist calmly asks questions such as:
- Should muslims take revenge on people for drawing cartoons about you?
- Do Muslim countries need to develop nuclear weapons?
- Should women have the same rights as men?
- Does a Muslim who leaves his faith need to be killed?

Maher al-Gohari converted to Christianity 30 years ago, but the Muslim-born Egyptian only recently took the decision to make his conversion public.
The 56-year-old former policeman has put applied to the Higher Administrative Court to have his religion changed from "Muslim" to "Christian" on his official ID card.
In Egypt, citizens are required to carry their personal ID cards at all times. Without an ID card, one has no access to basic services.
It's ony the second time this year that such a request has been made in a country where converting to Christianity, while not illegal, is practically impossible.

Egyptian police used violence earlier this month to prevent villagers from repairing the only church in their area, a rights group said on Monday, warning of a rise in sectarian tension as a result.
On August 17, "a policeman assigned to guard the Archangel Michael Church in Deshasha (Beni Soueif province south of Cairo) hit three women while they were taking sand into the church to fix the floor which was cracked as result of water collection underneath," the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) said in a statement.

“Shere ne Maria: ethmav en Isos Pi ekhristos”

The Christians of Egypt, the Copts, celebrated the Feast of the Virgin Mary on Misra 16th, 1724 AM on the Coptic calendar, August 22, 2008 AD on the Gregorian calendar. The Feast culminates the popular Fasting of Saint Mary, observed by the vast majority of the Copts, and many Muslims in Egypt who believe in the healing powers of God through the intercessions of Saint Mary. I would like to extend warm greetings to the Copts all over the world and wish them a blessed Saint Mary’s Feast.

Why are Egypt's Coptic Christians so apathetic about their persecution?
The other night flipping through Arabic satellite stations, I came across a Coptic man who was lividly discussing the "Coptic question." His name was George Sa'ad, and he was speaking on the famous Arabic show, Al-Bayt Baytak, which airs on Al-Masriya ("The Egyptian"). It quickly became apparent, however, that his objections were not directed at Egypt's radicals or even the government; no, he was upset with the "trouble-making" Copts of the diaspora, particularly those living in the West. Sa'ad, a member of the Itihad al-Misriyin in Canada, (the "Egyptian Union") was claiming that there is no real problem in Egypt, and that it is the Western Copts who are creating all this "propaganda."

The Egyptian Medical Association, through its spokesman on August 18, denied that a bill in the Egyptian parliament would discriminate between Christians and Muslims by prohibiting organ transplants between members of the two faiths. The Association supports the controversial measure. "This is all to protect poor Muslims from rich Christians who buy their organs and vice versa," explained Hamdi Al Sayed -- the director of the Medical Association. Under the bill, physicians who violate the proposed law would face retribution.
Speaking for Coptic Christians, Bishop Marcos said "We all have the same Egyptian blood, but if the reason for the measure is to end organ trafficking, we reject it because it may also occur between believers of the same religion." For Bishop Marcos, the Association's decision is "very grave" since it can lead to prohibiting blood donation between Christians and Muslims or prevent physicians from examining patients of religions other than their own. "We are afraid that in the future there will be hospitals for Christians and hospitals for Muslims," said the bishop. Egyptian Christians currently make up approximately 10% of the nation as a whole, which has a population of more than 76 million.

SAN'A, Yemen: Yemeni police have detained at least nine people this year for converting from Islam to Christianity, a security official said Tuesday.
The nine were arrested between May and early August and remain in police custody, said the official.
Converting from Islam to any other religion is illegal in Yemen and can be punishable by death. But in previous cases, those arrested are usually released after they revoke their new faith and pledge to return to Islam.
